I’ve just had to start using readers. I prefer the look of the full-sized frame over the “granny” glasses, but I’m annoyed at having to take them on and off (push them on top of my head) as I switch between working on my iPad and watching TV. Because we all need simultaneous screens in our lives, don’t we? ?
Where can I find cute frames that are just clear on the top, but readers on the bottom? Like no-line bifocals but with no prescription on the top half/two-thirds. I don’t wear glasses for distance. I just need the reader part. I don’t mind spending a lot for one cute pair, but I’d like some less expensive options as well so I can have multiple pairs.
If it makes a difference, I am only using the 1.0 level. I want fun and, of course, “youthful.”
Looks like you want to buy progressive (no-line) bifocals with 0 prescription on top, +1 on the bottom for reading. These should be orderable at local optometrists, but may be expensive (Luxottica monopoly and all that). You could try ordering from one of the discount web order glasses vendors for a lower price.
This is not what you are asking for right now but if you open your options to NOT split lenses and just want “cute” I have found that SteinMart has great fun readers in all shapes, sizes colors and range from like $15-$20+. I discovered them accidentally and its the only thing I stop there for!
(I also am a fan of getting a cute eyeglass chain (not an old lady one) so at least at work I have the option to pul them on and off easily but have them near. It’s one of my fashion trademarks.
Go to Zenni online. Pick out the frame or frames you like. Fill in the prescription part for progressive lenses with no correction on the top and 1 on the bottom. You don’t need a prescription. Depending on the frames you select it’ll run maybe $30-$70.
I have never seen no line progressives with no correction on top for sale OTC.
I have got chains at Steinmart that were cute but weren’t too sturdy or got tangled. I have two I got a few years ago at Brighton (? Is that what it’s called) .
Thanks to this thread I checked out some of the websites mentioned. Eyebobs has “all-day readers”, which are progressive lenses with correction only on the bottom, for $149. I’ve been wearing progressive lenses for years (and paying a fortune for them), but now find that I need very little correction for distance. I’m itching to get new glasses but am considering cataract surgery in the near future so don’t want to spend much right now. So I just ordered some really cute bifocal glasses on readers.com for $20 and maybe I’ll try the Eyebobs after surgery (assuming they can correct my distance vision).
And my first thought was cute (early) reader books…LOL.
Regarding readers, I use a level one. Just from Walmart. Only $5.88 so I have several pairs around the house, my purse, work, etc. When I first got them, I would use them only to read small, close-up print. I had to take them off to see my computer or iPad. But my eyes adapted, unfortunately, so now I use them for any kind of reading, my computer and iPad. I definitely regret how dependent my eyes are on them now, but I think that’s the way it goes.
