My undergraduate school is pretty decent for my major, and also offers a master’s degree program for it. However, I would also like to go on and get my doctorate. I would prefer to stay at my current school for my master’s since I would not have to move for two more years and because my mother is a professor which provides a 75% off discount for tuition. But, I’ve heard that “inbreeding” might be a problem when it comes to trying to get accepted into a school to get my doctorate. Is it really that bad? Should I go ahead and move off for my entire graduate program or wait until after I’ve gotten my master’s from my current undergrad school?
What field is this?
For many fields, if you want a PhD, you apply directly to a PhD program straight out of undergrad and pick up a Master’s along the way. And the whole 6 years would be funded.
