July is notoriously miserable in the DC area. I know it is many places. I told hubby next summer I want to go away for 2 weeks in July somewhere arctic-esque for a breather. I would consider a week around the ring and a week in Reykjavik. Or a week in Ireland and a week in Scotland.
Where would you go to escape the oppressive summer heat?
Denmark or Sweden would be nice this time of year, but not really cold. Same for the Rocky Mountains. If you want even cooler, maybe Southern Hemisphere?
I’ve been to Scotland in July and needed a wool sweater in the Highlands so it is a good place to beat the heat. It can be a bit rainy.
We normally have nice beach weather here in San Diego in July with the high around 75 to 80 degrees if you wanted to come somewhere in the US.
Australia is nice and cool in July! My hubby is Australian and we pretty much have to go in our summer since none of the other school breaks are very long. We usually work in a stop somewhere on the way or way back (like Japan, Bali, or Hawaii). It’s always a real breath of fresh air to have a week or 2 of mild winter after sweating our way through somewhere in Asia in the summer.
Average July temp in San Francisco is high of 67 and low of 54…just saying…and I’m really enjoying it right now as we just returned from San Antonio. Lowest temp in five days?? 98! Thought I was melting…
Santa Barbara is a 73 today.
One summer we were visiting family in Santa Rosa and it was so hot we didn’t want to leave the house. Next stop was SF and the cool 60’s felt so good. I’m not a heat person.
Ventura/Santa Barbara is in the low 70’s/high 60’s so far this summer. We are supposed to have a couple of days in the mid to high 80’s this weekend, but then back down to the 70’s again by next week. We do not get the humidity that east coast beaches get either.
We loved our summer Iceland vacation. I can’t think of a better place to get away from the heat, and it’s drop-dead georgeous to boot. Pack wool socks!
Yes! Last week when we were there, everyone was complaining about the cold. “Isn’t this cold??” At that point, it was 61 degrees. I looked up our town in Maine, and it was 53 at the same time!
It is raining there a lot, which is good since they’ve had such a terrible drought. I will admit it was pretty raw, with the wind and rain. Some days it was clear, though. I want to go back.
@eyemamom - It is really beastly here this week, isn’t it! I thought that thunder today would mean a cooling rain, but nooooooooo. Barely enough to get dust off the car.
My retired cousin who grew up near Denver, and now lives about 20 minutes from me here iin Montgomery County, MD, spent last summer at his wife’s home place on the Vermont/Canadian border doing a lot of hiking and fishing and generally hanging out. On return last fall, he reported that 30+ years in our area had made him forget how nice summer can be. As soon as warmish weather hit this year, he packed the fly rods and left for the border.
