Some friends just went to England and are going to Iceland on their way back. It is really expensive.
I’d do the Oregon Coast, but then I’d do the Oregon Coast at any time.
Iceland! We were there last year and it was amazing. Got some great airfare on Wow air.
Went to Prague a couple of weeks ago, and they were in the midst of a heat wave while we were there.
Of course they were.
It’s been over 100 degrees in North Texas for the last several days. Of course the AC in the master bedroom finally went kaput. Slept in D2’s room downstairs last night and probably for the next several to come.
I went and volunteered for a few hours, where it’s fully air conditioned. Didn’t leave until the heat went down a few points. Unfortunately, no movies I want to see.

Hmmm…the Yellowstone comment upstream got me thinking. In 1976, I took a cross country trip with two friends. Mid-July we were at Crater Lake. It was night, and I remarked it looked like it was snowing (we were driving UP the mountain). Sure enough…it was snowing. We had breakfast in the main lodge the next morning where they were playing Christmas carols. When I inquire…I was told that it was the “first snow” of the season, and they always celebrated Christmas in July at the first snow!
So…maybe Crater Lake?
Sequoia National Park (northeast of LA) was nice and cool when we visited in June. It’s at altitude and gorgeous!
Oh gosh…don’t come to North Carolina. It was 96 degrees today. I would think Alaska might be cooler.
Heading down to the basement again tonight to sleep. It’s 70 down there.

Well, due to the cooling breeze from the ocean, our bedroom cooled off pretty well last night so we were able to sleep there. The bedroom thermostat read 87 late afternoon yesterday, and by this morning it was 76. We use the trick of having a fan blow air OUT one window so that cool air is pulled in another open window. It works great! We had to sleep under covers. I love Maine.
We have a window AC unit in our home office. Our bedroom has casement windows and we can’t find a unit that will fit in any of them. We’ve looked into freestanding units, but Consumer Reports says they don’t work very well.
Couldn’t survive without my central A/C.
Nearly every day I say God bless Carrier, my personal favorite invention in modern history. If I had to choose I’d take a/c over power, internet, etc.
You might need that power to run your A/C. 
Off-topic, but my husband’s great aunt, who was alive most of the 20th century, told us that paved roads were her very favorite invention that occurred during her lifetime! There was no doubt in her mind AT ALL. She said if you only knew how many times people’s vehicles got stuck in the mud!
We avoided central because I read it’s not actually efficient. (Big house, not all rooms need AC. And no ducts. Etc.) Lately. I say, dang that Google.
Not many people in our area have central AC. You really don’t need it many weeks a year.
On the other hand, we were surprised that a lot of people in South Africa don’t have ANY type of heating system! We tend to visit our friends in Johannesburg during their summer months. We’ve visited them in June, July, and August. EVERY time, we freeze our butts off when we stay with them! I don’t know how/why they put up with it.
