There’s a section in the Common Application for “Academic Honors”. For a person who has none so far, where would be a good place to start. Also is self studying for APs in order to get the AP Scholar Stuff a good idea?

Thanks

IMO, the AP Scholar thing is very nice to have. But so is any academic honor.

Dean’s List, Honor Roll, National Merit/Commended, Nat’l foreign language exams, Mu Alpha Theta, NHS; Chemistry/Art/Spanish/Whatever National Honor Society, Academic/Math team competitions, Presidential Scholar, Book Awards, Most Outstanding this or that Student, AP Scholar, State Latin/Spanish/French Forums…

Ask you GC to help you out. If you are a pretty good student and haven’t been recognized with any of the above, your concern will probably be enough to spur someone on to help you out (get you on an academic team, etc.)

NHS is an honor? That’s awesome. So stuff like “French Honor Society” are actually worth something? This is interesting.

Hey, I’m self studying for APs too, is the AP Scholar thing a good reason to self study for then?

Some students will have very elite, nationally recognized academic honors.

Others will have High Honors, Honors, “Honor Roll every quarter,” NHS…

Some students who get into top colleges or who receive merit $$ at next-notch-down colleges have achieved AP Scholar before it’s time for application submittal. Others haven’t.

Present your best self in your application and don’t worry about what others have. If you are early in your high school career, focus on taking the most challenging curriculum available to you and doing your best in that curriculum. The appropriate honors will follow.

Some won’t have academic honors at all. Presumably they bring something else to the table and/or have chosen colleges where being a top student is not a key ingredient.
