If a tourist needs to completely rely on public transportation to go from San Jose to Fisherman’s Wharf by Caltrain and the MUNI bus system in San Francisco, after he gets off the Caltrain station at 4th and King, he is supposed to take MUNI route 47. But where can he purchase a MUNI ticket after he gets off the Caltrain station at 4th and King? The ticket is not sold on the bus!

If you go to first car of trains and go to the first door where the driver is, there is a machine by the driver to pay your two dollars. Then you get a transfer

And for a bus there is a machine to take your money. Have exact change, ones are fine, and don’t forget to take your transfer

I promise you can pay on the bus, but you have to use machine by the driver

What was once referred to as “trolly” lines now called the metro - (it was “trolly” many years ago when they used old style cars) You could opt for a cable car – more scenic that way; more expensive; and you’d probably have to stand in line and wait to get on – as the cable cars are such a tourist attraction.

But I don’t think the 47 Van Ness is the best route. I think you would be better off getting the 30 Stockton bus (a block away, at 4th & Townsend) – or you could ride the metro all the way, getting the N Judah and switching to the F line at the Market/Embarcadero station.

I don’t know if it’s too late to tell you this, but I think it would just be easier to do the following:

Walk from the Caltrain station at 4th and King to the Muni streetcar station across the street

Buy a ticket at the machines there, and catch an N-Judah train to Embarcadero station (or any train going to Embarcadero station)

Get off at Embarcadero station, walk to the street above (Market Street)

Catch one of the F-Market historic streetcars (you just have to show the ticket you already paid for) and ride that down the Embarcadero to Fisherman’s Wharf

I think that’s a lot more scenic than taking the bus too, especially considering how you’ll be going along the waterfront almost the entire time.

If u take the muni train to the embarcadero station and get off there I would even say walk along the embarcadero to fisher mans wharf if they are walkers.
