Where to put language qualifications + word count issues

Hello. I was wondering where I could put my DELF French accreditions in the common application because I didn’t take it as a course under any college.

And also, for the Stanford Supplement, it says 1800 characters max and although when I put it into the common application form, the character count says I still have like 1 or 5 characters left, I get the error that I have exceeded the character count when I try to save it! I’ve submitted a ticket to Common Application late last week but they aren’t replying me yet so I’m wondering if anyone knows what is wrong?

Thanks!

The 1800 characters seems to include spaces.

Yea, but under MSWord my word char is not even 1799 including spaces although it says i have 1 char left, for example… so I suppose that they have already factored the spaces in.

Check the formatting of what you copy and paste. I noticed that my indents (using the tab bar in Word) turns into like 10 spaces on the common app.

EDIT: Also stuff like one straight dash (made automatically on Word after you do like --), actually is – in the form, making it one character on Word and two on the fill in box.

Hmm thanks but it doesn’t seem to be the formatting problem.

Well if common application allows me to put my chunk of 1795-1800 characters into the box and claim that there’s still characters that I can add, why would I have be exceeding the limit?

Ehh… I’m puzzled. ><

Somehow if I were to spam 1800 of 'a’s into the box, the system is perfectly fine with it.

Regarding the DELF/DALF, I would put it in the text area just after the activity list. Just one or two lines saying what degree you accomplished and maybe a little extra for admission officers who aren’t familiar with it (explain that it’s administered by the gov’t, has six levels, etc.).

Can’t you get around the word count by just attaching your essay as a World or txt doc? I assure you that we aren’t really counting the characters or words. As long as the essay isn’t outrageously long, you’ll be fine.

Oh. Hmmmm there are lines after the activity list? Mine goes straight to work experience… Haha but sounds like a good idea, if I can find the lines heh :P

I don’t think so! The online submission has boxes and no option for attaching the document. Eeks. I wouldn’t bother so much about the char count either, but common application keeps giving me errors.
