Hello! I am going to be visiting Vassar and Wesleyan soon. My family is struggling to find the best hotels to stay in that are a.) nice with some charm (ideally not a Holiday Inn type place) and b.) walking distance from campus, since the whole point is to get a feel for campus. (The nicer places seem to be like 30 minutes away, which isn’t great.) So far the best option I see for Vassar is Alumnae House, which looks interesting but a little shabby and quirky, and the Middletown Inn for Wes. Are there good places we’re not finding? Any advice would be appreciated, thank you!
The “Inn at Middletown” is three blocks from the Wesleyan campus:

What’s wrong with it?
Didn’t mean to imply there is anything wrong with it–it’s just literally the only place I can find so far, so wondering if there are other good options we are missing.
We live in the nyc area so did day trips to both. You don’t need to stay in town to have a feel for the schools.
I think it’s the only hotel in town proper. My kid was recently admitted, so I’ve been booking rooms for move in and other events this year; I was able to book at the Inn for only one of the events. For others I’ve had no problem finding larger chain hotels within 10 miles.
It sounds like you have scoped out all the best options. There are a couple of Marriott’s in nearby Cromwell that aren’t bad. But other than The Inn, there is nothing else (comparable) in walking distance and as @Collegequestions5 implied, you may have to book pretty far in advance.
The Hudson Valley is a vacation destination, so there are TONS of charming, character filled hotels; however none are within walking distance to Vassar.
Not charming, or within walking distance of Vassar, but we found the Hyatt Place, in Poughkeepsie, to be great. Modern, clean, quiet, etc. We stayed at several more expensive hotels during our college visits (including The Statler, at Cornell), and I’d take that particular Hyatt Place over all of them.
Great to know, thanks! It’s hard to tell a lot of these apart online.
Re: Vassar, if you don’t mind staying a little further and have a car, there are a lot of charming towns and inns within a 30 min drive or so in the Hudson River Valley like Beacon, Kingston, and Rhinebeck. Also if you go on Vassar’s website they suggest many other local options: Visit - Lodging | Vassar College
When we visited last year, parking on campus was easy.
