We are doing some college visits with our junior son, and likely visiting Union in Schenectady one afternoon and RPI in Troy the next morning. Where should we spend the night–city choice is most important but hotel recs are welcome too
Troy and Schenectady are 1/2 hour away from each other. Saratoga is a 1/2 hour from Schenectady and about 45 minutes from Troy. If your tour of RPI isn’t too early and you’ll have some time to kill after Schenectady, I’d stay in Saratoga and enjoy the town.
Ive been wanting to visit Troy since a post on “financial independence retire early” blog I follow. They spend a month in different destinations all over the world and enjoyed the month in Troy.
Thanks for posting this. I grew up in the tri-city area - Troy was always the grittiest of the three cities. It’s nice to see it on the rebound as a place to live.
My mom was in assisted living near Troy, so for 18 months we explored a different restaurant evey week. I ADORE Troy!!! So many cool restaurants and coffee shops! LMK if anyone wants any recommendations
For any of you Glided Age fans (the show on HBO starring Christine Baranski) in addition the “famous” location shoots in Newport, many of the scenes replicating Post-Civil War NYC are actually shot in Troy. Some of the sets used are absolutely gorgeous!
