Mapquest shows there is a Best Western Plus on 818 N. Hill St. However, I would stay at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel & Suites, Los Angeles at 404 S Figueroa St, Los Angeles, CA 90071 United States and take the cab there.

I have attended many meetings at the CA Endowment in LA. (I’d love to know the conference you are attending!)

Once I stayed at a little boutique hotel not too far away. It was also relatively inexpensive. Here is the website, [Los Angeles Hotels, Boutique Hotel Los Angeles, Los Angeles Downtown Hotel](http://ohotelgroup.com/).

It’s a regional conference about COPD–Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (emphysema & chronic bronchitis). It will be with BreatheLA and BreatheCA. It was supposed to have partners from WA, AZ & NV as well, but none could attend due to scheduling conflicts.

Thanks for the tip. Did you walk between the hotel & the meeting?

Yelp the Metro Plaza Hotel.
It’s near your conference place and you have Chinatown and Olivera Street as well as proximity to Union Station and buses.
Found it by Google mapping the areas near your conference.
The area is grittier than most 'burb people would feel comfy but the nearby excellent food options may put it in the running.
You can take the LAXFlyaway from LAX to Union Station.

Yea, we were thinking of the Metro Plaza Hotel. She’s going to ask her LA contact & I’ll ask mine as well about that particular hotel. Did see a lot of homeless near JTown last time we drove in the area at dusk.

The hotels listed by the conference site are:
Omni on S.Olive
Hilton Checkers on S.Grand
Millennium Biltmore on S.Grand
Wilshire Grand on Wilshire
Kyoto Grand on S.Los Angeles St.

All of those hotels will provide free shuttle/town car within 3 miles of the hotel.
Any thoughts?

HIMom: Sounds like an interesting conference! (My mother has COPD.)

I did not walk, took a taxi to the Endowment. I don’t remember it being very far away. From the Endowment, I then caught a shuttle back to the airport.

All of the other hotels listed are just fine and bigger. The O Hotel is quite small, but very hip feeling. The rooms are more than adequate, at least for me. I like smaller B&Bs, so this felt more like that, than a big hotel.

I would recommend flying into Burbank, but you have probably already made travel plans. You can take the Metro directly from the airport. You can even get the Metro back from Union Station to the airport. (I’m also a big fan of public transportation; use it whenever I can.)

I like the Hilton Checkers…though it’s been a while, I have had clients and vendors stay there. The Biltmore is an interesting old hotel, when you walk through the fabulous lobby you will immediately recognize it from the hundreds of movies that have been filmed there.
If you are looking for interesting and fatally hip, try the Standard Downtown. Good food, “beautiful people” and fantastic roof top lounge.

TripAdvisor had someone say the Biltmore was being demolished in 2012. Hilton Checkers had mixed reviews from that same source. We are thinking of having two of us women sharing a room–the O doesn’t seem to allow that. I have never flown in & out of Burbank before, only LAX; thanks for the tip.

There are 12 million US adults diagnosed with COPD and likely an equal or greater number undiagnosed. In HI, there are 30,000 diagnosed and an equal or greater number undiagnosed. It’s a huge and growing issue, as our populations age, since it predominantly affects older folks.

Are you sure about the Biltmore?? When I search on “Biltmore demolished”
I only find information on the Biltmore in Florida. The downtown Biltmore is so famous…I would think that this would raise a huge stink, even in Los Angeles…the land of disposable architecture.

BTW–flying in and out of Burbank is a cakewalk.

HiMom, when we wanted to visit DS at USC, we always called the OMNI hotel front desk and asked for [ and got most of the time] the USC rate. Its about 60% off, and if you splurge a little more and ask for one of the Club room [top] floors, you can get a full hot breakfast, afternoon snacks, cocktails , tea and coffee anytime etc, etc in a exclusive “club”- all FREE. It was a little bit of civilized, heavenly respite in downtown LA , right near the Disney center.
