Where To Transfer in NJ?

I graduated high school in 2016, and did my freshman year at La Salle University. It’s a long story, but I had a baby in October 2017. I finished the year with A’s and B’s, although most of those classes didn’t transfer.

I enrolled in BCC Online Sep 2017, never taking any time off! I’m majoring in social work, with plans to become a child therapist. My GPA is around a 3.1. I’m taking five classes in the spring, and two in the summer. I’ve already had to do an extra year of school, and I’d like to avoid any more. My family’s EFC was $0, and since I had my daughter I’m now “independent” on the FAFSA.

I’m trying to figure out where to apply for Fall 2019. I’d prefer to continue studying online, because I’ve found it to be more convenient. My daughter also does modeling, which needs a flexible schedule. This obviously isn’t as important as college! But, it’s something we both enjoy, and it has helped us a bit financially. I’ve enjoyed being able to do my work away from home or at night with online college. I should be getting my license next month, and my dad saved enough money for me to get a “reliable car”. So, I can commute if I have to…

The two schools I’m focusing on are Montclair and Rutgers. Montclair is only 20 minutes away, and I don’t think there’s any online degrees? Rutgers is much more well-known, but it’s about an hour away, probably longer with traffic. I’m not sure if I’d get accepted, although I know A LOT of transfers with lower grades who were. They seem to have online degrees, but I couldn’t find one in social work.

My mom works in Westchester County, so we were considering relocating to NYC. Bergen County isn’t much cheaper than the city. NY seems to have a better deal as far as colleges go.

The transfer counselor at your CC should be able to help you with this. Have you met with that person? Usually the transfer advisor knows good programs for students to move on to.

What is BCC - Bronx Community College? And I would also try to find a school that will transfer your La Salle credits if you can. Does BCC have transfer agreements?

@CCtoAlaska Bergen Community College. That’s a good idea! I mostly took freshman seminar & religion classes, so BCC didn’t “need” those. I did pass social work 101 with an A, that should count for something.

The website says they do, but it doesn’t seem like the Rutgers one is guaranteed. There’s also Ramapo, but that’s another school where traffic could be difficult. I’ll try and meet with an advisor!

According to their transfer page, Dominican College in NY takes credits for a BA in Social Work. But that’s far up the Hudson. You are just going to have to ask the transfer counselor and they will help you. I would also talk to La Salle and see what they can do for you since you did so well there.
