Where?

Where can a hispanic male with the following stats get accepted:
ACT-33
SAT-2280
Weighted GPA-4.2
Unweighted-3.9
Great essays-struggle with poverty, lost father at an early age.
Very good extra curriculars.

How prestigious of a school could I attend?

The Ivies would LOVE you. Your chances would be great considering I’ve seen well-off URMs with 1730 SATs get into Cornell.

many ivys will accept and the whole beating the odds thing is definately a plus. Cornell, Dartmouth, princeton might, Harv and Yale are a reach brown and columbia probably will stanford might. for the non ivys ND will Duke will USC will Chicago will the three military academys will

How is the financial aid at those institutions?

For somebody in your financial situation (minority lost father) you can get alot of aid. But you also should be in the running to a plethora of scholorships.

I’m very interested in science and mathematics, what are the best schools for the areas mentioned. Sorry, I’m pretty much clueless.

try collegeboard.com and go through their college search process. Sorry I dont have a list of good sci/math off the top of my head. University of pittsburgh has a good computer science program i hear

I really appreciate all of the help.

You’ll get into any school you want. Seriously.

Those are some very impressive stats.

Yeah you’re going wherever. If you were a girl you’d be even more set, but what are you gonna do?

He may change gender :D

LOL, though I must say that you [justwanttoattend] definitely remind me of myself, though you have even better stats than me, so good luck with everything though you’re probably not going to need it.

Thanks for all of the encouragement, but I have another question, should I go to a prestigious college just because I want to make a couple people proud. In a way, I feel somewhat obligated to do so, and I find it very difficult to make the decision.

you should try the SAT/ACT again that 2280 and 33 is on the lower end for some schools

Hmmm, I know what you’re talking about with pressure and all from others. Basically my aunt wanted me to go to MIT, and she was upset when I said no, but then I told her that I knew that I would hate my experience there, I don’t think she found this to be a good reason, but w/e to her, seriously just go where you think you’ll be happiest not where others want you to go, after all you the one who’s going to be spending the next four years of your life there so I would say this is a rather important decision.

As to that 2280, I really don’t get how it could possibly be on the lower end, if anything with an average of 760 per section he’s in the middle to upper part.

you’ve got a great chance anywhere!

You shouldn’t go to a school just to make people proud. But it just so happens that the schools that do make people proud have that efffect for a reason. Make sure you will be comfortable at those prestigious schools, but don’t give them up easily. Many people would kill for a spot at the Ivies.

I had no idea that this site was going to be so beneficial. I guess I will go on some college visits but just some that are in proximity of half a days car drive.
Is there some way that you could explain your situation to admissions in order for them to somehow cover some of the costs for a visit.

Sometimes, though granted this is deeper in the game, but for a pre-frosh weekend one of the schools said they would cover airfare and such just to get me there, though I don’t know if they do this just for visits, so…
