Whew! The kid has a job

DS has been in the middle of a lot of interviewing for a coop/internship in his field. Juggling interviews for jobs he didn’t really want just in case he didn’t end up with one he really wanted.

He was turned down by his top two choices given that this is his first internship and other more qualified students got those choice positions. One of them actually had the interview group go to HR and ask for money to fund a second position because they wanted him so strongly as their second choice. Sadly it is a government agency and the funds weren’t available.
He ended up with his third choice and both of us are relieved that is over.

In retrospect, what a great experience. Not just the actual job but the experience of needing to get one and juggling the interviews, phone calls, and keeping the third place hanging in case the first two turned him down.

This is a kid who worked all through HS but in the situation where you applied for a job and waited till you got it or not to worry about applying for another one. Worked from 14 on and never left one job without another to go to.

I love the fact that his college is giving him this practical experience in his field and in the world of job interviewing.

Drinks in Sinner’s on me tonight in celebration.

Congrats to son ebeeeee. I am coming over to get my drink

Congratulations to your son!

scotch on the rocks for me, ebeeee!

A toast to you and your son.

Cool ebeeeee.

For your S, remember that the big-name popular internships aren’t always the best. Sometimes an internship at a smaller company allows the intern to do more real work and they end up gaining more from it.

Precisely… that was my theory. There was something he turned down at a big name company but I had the feeling he wasn’t going to get to do any real work. The place he is going is smaller but he will actually get to do work that is more exactly in his field of study.

I love the story, ebeeeee. Like you said, not just the outcome but the process and all the learning it involved.

Awww… I love it when sons do something good! Congratulations, ebeeeee!
