Which ACT books are the best to reach a perfect score?

Hi!

I’m an international student with low finances who hopes to go to a top university in the United States. Unless I receive a full-ride or full-tuition scholarship, my parents cannot finance my education so I really need to excel holistically in order to stand out and have an opportunity to receive a scholarship. But I do realize of the importance of standardized test scores in the scholarship awarding process, and therefore am trying to bolster my test scores to a perfect score, or a near perfect score to at least put myself at a similar level to my scholarship and even college admission competitors.

My last ACT test score was a composite of 30, getting a 31 on English and 29’s on the rest. I’m actually taking a gap year because that 30 ACT score could not get me to any university in the United States with a good scholarship, and now only until both the October and December ACT tests this year in order to raise my ACT scores. When I took the ACT test the first time, I actually didn’t study much and got a 30, but this time, I have about 2 months to study, and would like to use that time wisely to get the highest score possible.

Therefore, what ACT books do you think I should try to get? Multiple books are fine; I just want to find books that will overall get my score up higher than my composite of 30. I actually finished the 3 practice tests from the Real ACT Prep Guide, and need more practice tests to study and practice. I personally feel like to me practice is what really helps me improve, so that’s what I’ve been doing. I do feel like I do need to gain some more knowledge on tricks and different strategies too, so I might need a book solely for that as well.

As of now, I am thinking of getting the Barron’s 36 and Princeton Review’s 1296 Questions. What would you advise? It’d be awesome if I could several books that have practice tests/questions that I can practice from and some (or even one) books that can help me with strategy etc.

Please share with me your success stories! I’d really appreciate your help!

Both Barron’s 36 and PR’s 1296 are really good. Another book is PR’s cracking the act. This book has lots of strategies that you might like, and it also has practice questions.

Thank you TexasRanger! I appreciate your input! I’m also considering getting McGraw-Hill’s 10 ACT Practice Tests. I heard that those practice tests were actually easier, and I’d rather prefer tests that were of the same or harder level than the actual test. The majority of my studying will be through practice tests and I have two months, so the more I have the better! What is your opinion on this?

I have used McGraw Hills 10 practice tests and THEY ARE EASIER.
I’d recommend you just stick to PR and Barrons. But if you need some easy practice I guess you can get McGraw’s…

I actually used the Red Book and got a 36

I have the 1296 book. They give you the practice, but getting a good score is contingent upon yourself, you have to do a lot of practice.
