Which are zero tolerance schools?

People disagree whether zero tolerance is a good policy or not, but which are the zero tolerance schools, and which are second (or more) chance?

Maybe you can help me add to the list:

Zero tolerance - Hotchkiss, Peddie, Westminster

Second chance - Andover, McCallie

I know from revisits that Choate is zero tolerance, while Lawrenceville has a two-strike policy

I read posts earlier on CC that St. Georges is a zero tolerance school.

Zero tolerance - Hotchkiss, Peddie, Westminster, Pomfret

Second chance - Andover, McCallie, Brooks, Taft, NMH, Loomis

Zero tolerance - Hotchkiss, Peddie, Westminster, Pomfret

Second chance - Andover, McCallie, Brooks, Taft, NMH, Loomis, Berkshire

Zero tolerance - Hotchkiss, Peddie, Westminster, Pomfret, Blair

Second chance - Andover, McCallie, Brooks, Taft, NMH, Loomis, Berkshire

Zero tolerance - Hotchkiss, Peddie, Westminster, Pomfret, Blair

Second chance - Andover, McCallie, Brooks, Taft, NMH, Loomis, Berkshire, St. Paul’s, Deerfield

choate is zero tolerance

Zero tolerance - Hotchkiss, Peddie, Westminster, Pomfret, Blair, Kent, Choate

Second chance - Andover, McCallie, Brooks, Taft, NMH, Loomis, Berkshire, St. Paul’s, Deerfield

Please remember that it’s rarely as black and white as this thread makes it sound. While the zero tolerance school may have that official policy, they may or may not apply it uniformly. Likewise, the “2nd chance” schools certainly can and will expel students on first offenses, if the offense is grave enough to warrant it. Finally, everyone I talked to about this switched the topic from D & A (which is certainly endemic, and we all know it) to academic fraud–YES, at these institutions–which is EQUALLY endemic, and which the schools consider to be much more problematic. I doubt there are any “2nd chances” for clearly documented academic fraud, although of course in some cases the issue of intent is far more difficult to ascertain.

Excellent points, PrepintheSouth. Academic fraud is serious & as you say, may both be less tolerated as well as harder to determine intent. For simplicity, let’s keep this thread to D&A, so as not to muddy the waters. If folks want to discuss academic fraud policies, that should be another thread. Similarly, though application of a zero tolerance or second chance policy is no doubt subject to the school’s discretion, I am just trying to find out what the rule book says at each school.
