Which awards should be left off applications?

I have heard that awards like Who’s Who are not legitimate enough to put on college applications, but which other awards fall into the same category?

How about:

The National Dean’s List

All-(State) Academic Team

All-USA Academic Team

and any other ones…

any opinions?

are those PTK related?

I doubt that awards are going to make that much of an impact to the admissions officer unless it’s something that a few people can receive for their acomplishments. There is nothing wrong with the above awards including PTK if you’re a strong leader in the organization and have done great things to make the chapter successful.

For example, there was a classmate of mine in my computer class who was a very bright individual. I encouraged him to apply to our PTK chapter and get involved. He not only joined, he made the chapter the best in the state. In addition, he maintained a 3.9 GPA in his classes overall.

As a result of his accomplishments, he was placed on the College All USA Academic Team and received the Guistwhite scholarship on top of a full scholarship to the University of Wisconson-Madison. I have never met a person like him prior or since who has taken full advantage of the opportunities given to him and made the most of it. I wish him well.

If he could do it, I can’t see why you couldn’t as well.

The Academic Team awards are sponsored by PTK, but you don’t have to be a member to get the, though most of the people who get them are part of the honor society.

Wow, your classmate sounds like a very impressive person. I don’t think my accomplishments can quite compare to that, but I try:).

Thanks for the help!
