I am going to be a freshman at Rice this fall and have had a TI-83 Plus for the past six years. I think it’s time to get a new calculator and I’m debating between two–the TI-84 Plus Silver Edition and the TI-89 Titanium. Given that price isn’t a factor, which of these worked best for you in MATH 211/212 or MATH 221/222?

Regardless of how those calculators will help you in class, the TI-89 Titanium is MUCH more powerful and awesome, but I should warn you that it takes time to get used to it when upgrading from an 83 or 84.

I haven’t used my TI-89 since high school. I am a Premed/STAT major. What I have used is MathJournal software on my Lenovo X61 tablet for all math and the Organic Chemistry Pad from Clemson or the one from Brown for Organic chemistry. If you are interested here are the site links:

TI-89. Get it. I have a TI-86, but I’m continually borrowing my friend’s TI-89 (especially for my MATH 211 class…I’m going to take 221/222 next year, but I have a friend who had one and I think she used it a decent amount).
