I’m a sophomore at Smith College, and I am completely over it. Right now, I have a 3.2, am an English major, have only received one C+
I don’t have many extracurriculars but I hope that Smith’s reputation as a “good” school can carry me into transferring…
I’m debating on taking fall semester off b/c I have missed Fall entry transfer deadlines?
I cannot go to a school which requires transfers with even 30+ credits to share SAT scores (mine were low, but my GPA was high, I applied to Smith ED + it’s test optional)
I am thinking about Pepperdine or Loyola Marymount LA… is it realistic?
Really, Santa Monica? It is a community college. Is that what you wanted?
Are you okay with the religious requirements of Pepperdine? Church of Christ based. It is a dry and conservative campus in Malibu. Is that what you wanted? You do need a car.
LMU is Catholic based. It’s a beautiful campus, and, very expensive. Most of the info is on the website.
Oh, then I don’t think you want to do Pepperdine. LMU is an interesting choice.
Chapman university is a private school in Orange County which has a lot of film and television types/major of students. It is private and has a religious sponsor.
If acting is your goal, then you really need to be at a USC/UCLA type of school.
CAVEAT: Los Angeles is full of thousands of young wannabe actors, with degrees, (and agents) who are waiting on tables, or driving for Uber or Lyft, It’s a luck thing and generally, NY is better for thapt goal.
LA is an expensive place to be as an English major, but you may be able to find something with a degree. Any school will have English majors. Not so with acting. You aren’t guaranteed a job.
Everything costs money and time.
Well honestly, I wasn’t planning on majoring in theatre (maybe taking some acting classes), but currently as an English major, I am also an education minor. I thought it would make more sense for me to do this pathway in California since it would allow me to not have to go to grad school/teacher school post Smith if it is what I decide on doing while pursuing acting
Those all sound like good choices in terms of what you want (small, private, religious). Chapman has a good education dept as well as film and theatre.
You might also want to check out **Point Loma Nazarene ** in San Diego. Small, Jesuit, beautiful campus. Pepperdine has a lot of internationals and is more like a commuter school. The others will have more of a community.
Pt. Loma isn’t Jesuit. It is a Christian evangelical college. It’s a little out of the way. I wouldn’t really consider it a commuter college because the students live on campus and then gradually live off campus, in the area. It can be tricky to get to given the neighborhood.
