I’m from Connecticut and I have to make a decision on where I want to go to college next year. I want to study Poli Sci then move on to Law School after. I want a big school, a school with good school pride, big athletics, and still good academically. I really like the south too. My final 2 schools are Ole Miss and West Virginia U. I got into Ole Miss in December and I have been riding them pretty hard its in the South it has big athletics and has good academics, I was just admitted into West Virginia U a few days ago and it is bigger than Ole Miss but I don’t think I would consider West Virginia being in the South and their athletics are big as well… Which school would you guys pick and why?

Go with Ole Miss because it’s not West Virginia. WVU is not a great school academically. However if you’re really just looking for a party school, then WVU would be your place. You would have a good time though at Ole Miss as well. It’s college right?

ole miss has been voted in the top ten parting colleges in the USA every year forever. i just goggled Ole Miss and they are ranked #3 in the USA. West Virginia is not even mentioned

You need to visit both schools to get a feel for ‘fit’. WVU is a great school, but is not a “southern” school and doesn’t have a “southern” feel to it.

I think Ole Miss is the better choice here.

WVU is in the mountains, and has real winters. If one of your goals is to get far, far away from snow and cold, it would not be the best choice.

“I’m from Connecticut”

Good luck going from Connecticut to either of these schools. I would seriously re-think going to eitehr schools. Education will be sub-par and you will be paying OOS. Usually, these schools are reserved for people who can’t afford better options.

informative- you really should change your screen name- it is very deceptive.

The OP can get an excellent education at either of these schools if he chooses to take advantage of the opportunities the schools offer and your ignorant put-downs of these schools only shows your lack of knowledge and maturity.

There’s not a whole lot of difference by which to choose between these two schools, but something that I like a great deal about Ole Miss is the undergrad enrollment of 14,000. That’s quite small for a major state flagship university - not nearly as impersonal and anonymous than some mega-Us.

informative…maybe you will better informed if you …
google “Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College” at Ole Miss. 28 ACT minimum required

I would choose Ole Miss out of these two because it is so beloved by its students and alumni. I think there’s a lot to be said for being at a school that was the first choice of most of its students. So many kids at Ole Miss think of it as the summit, the ideal college experience. WVU is a flagship and an obvious choice for local kids, but I don’t think the students there view it as a “dream school” the way Ole Miss students do. Honestly, on my visit, Ole Miss reminded me of Harvard in that regard.

Ole Miss. Less couch burning and better liquor at the parties. Nice campus and town.

Haven’t been on in a while, but I’m enrolling into The University of Mississippi for various reasons thanks for all of your opinions

Congratulations on your decision, and wishing you much success!

Congratulations ARose! Work hard and choose your peer group carefully!

Little change, I just got into The University of Alabama which is a lot more academically strong than Ole Miss, I don’t know what to do…

Either will be fine and both have strong alumni populations that will connect you into jobs in the south.

When I said either, I meant Alabama and Miss, not West Virginia. I would not choose WVa.

Check CC’s U. of Alabama board - there are a lot of regular posters there who are quite helpful and enthusiastic.
