Which college would be worth visting and seriously considering?

hello, i’m going to be a junior this year and i’m super new to this forum. i’m interested in becoming a doctor, either a doctor of naturopathic medicine or er doctor. of course that may change but those are my interests currently. these are colleges that from my research i’m interested in. i’m from pa, btw and i want to stay around here.

American University- reasonably priced school, not too far away from home and if junior goes well for me then i have a good chance of getting in i think.

Georgetown University- definitely on the top of my list. pricey though and i don’t know if i would get in.

George Washington University- also very interested.

Temple University- interested, but not the top of my list

University of Penn- this would be a dream but would be tough to get into. and really pricey.

John Hopkins University- also another dream school. also tough to get into.

Boston University- another school that i think i would fair well for getting into.

these schools are on my list but if anyone has any other options i’m all ears. which of these schools would be good to look at? which would best prepare me for medical school? thanks.

Medical school will cost you A LOT. You’re looking at expensive schools, you should really look at cheaper options.

any recommendations?

If you have high stats, Tulane gives good merit aid I hear. Or case western? Do you have any pretty good in-state public schools?

You need to give your GPA, SAT or ACT scores, and (most importantly!) your budget.

All the schools you’ve listed will give you the background you need to apply to med school.

I can’t offer my sat or act because I’m a sophomore and I haven’t taken them yet but my GPA weighted is 3.2, I know that isn’t the best but i’m
going to be working hard to bring it up. Thanks everyone for your replies. I will definitely look into Tulane.

What’s your UW GPA?

Talk to you parents about how much they’ll be willing to spend. This really is the most important part.

You mention ‘pricey’ schools – have you had The Money Talk with your parents? No sense falling in love with colleges which you can’t afford. Sorry, but that’s kind of the first step in the process.

Wait until later in the year when you have at least PSAT scores and in idea of where your GPA might be at the end of this year. Right now I’d say your GPA is too low to think about Penn, JH, Georgetown, but it is really too early to know for sure. And I agree, that money might be a consideration as well.

With a 3.2 I’d start looking at some of the state schools. Arcadia has a decent rate of med school acceptances. Some of the others may be too rural for your tastes, but the cost savings may be well worth the sacrifice.

If you want private, try looking at Kings (Wilkesbarre), Marywood, Moravian, Elizabethtown, Lebananon Valley. They have pretty good financial aid.
