I want to study Marketing, and I’m in NJ, so Rutgers would be better for me financially. I got some money from Michigan State and from Pittsburgh, but after factoring those in, Rutgers is still the cheapest. Not to mention that I am also a Rutgers Honor student (which I am very happy about). But I’m just wondering if it would be worth going to Indiana and applying into Kelley after my first year, it seems very competitive, whereas in the other schools on the top half I’m already in the business school. Please share any thoughts about any of the schools, if there are any notable difference in their business programs. Thanks in advance.
@LBad96, you paying the bill? OP, I’d stay at Rutgers if you are satisfied with it. I would NOT go to a college where you were not a pre-admit to the business program. It is very competitive, and you are paying OOS tuition and possibly not getting your major. Rutgers is a fine choice. You can always “Leave New Jersey” after college graduation.
If you major in marketing remember that you need to minor in statistics (as any serious job in marketing will require a good knowledge of statistics). Check how easy it is to add a minor.
What’s your parents ’ budget, out of pocket (from income and savings)?
Which of these universities are within budget ?
Thank you everybody for your responses. Budget is not a huge concern, and at this point, I’ve gotten all my financial aid information back from all my schools, so I wouldn’t go to a school that was out of budget. However, obviously it will be less of a strain on my parents if I go to Rutgers. I’ve visited Rutgers twice, both times had a positive experience. I know rankings aren’t everything, but I just wonder why Indiana consistently ranks higher than Rutgers in any business ranking, as if there was something special that Indiana had that Rutgers didn’t.
