I am a sophomore in high school and am wondering if I could possibly get into an Ivy League/other prestigious school. My grades for last year were Global A, Math Honors B-, English B+, French B+, Science Research A, and Regents Chem A. This and last year I have been in all the hardest classes in my school, with the exception being that this year I did not qualify for Honors English. I am also afraid that my B- in math will screw everything up. Assuming I get almost all As for the rest of my high school year, I estimate my class standing to be within at least 20%. I will have completed the Julliard high school thing in Piano and Sax, and was in all-state jazz band for sax. I have also won various composing awards. I have some other small, irrelevant extra currics. I am not looking to study only music (although that is one of my major interests,) but history also interests me.

Your grades aren’t encouraging for ivies. I’m guessing that you haven’t taken an ACT or SAT yet.

However, don’t despair. Going to an ivy is not the “end all”. There are many fine schools that you’d like, too.

Your interest, school-wise, is in History. Music is like a major hobby???

What is your career interest?

Are you in the US?

yes music is a major hobby. Career interest, don’t really know yet. I am in the US

I concur. A top 20% rank and mostly As with a few Bs puts you in the territory of places like Rhodes. You’ll have a ton of options depending on what kind of school you’re looking for, where in the country you want to go, etc.
