Which colleges accept most undecided majors?
There are two main types of admissions:
- Some institutions have one admissions office for all undergraduate applicants, regardless of major. Chicago, Harvard, MIT, Princeton, Stanford and Yale and most LACs fall under that category. In their case, all applicants are evaluated as though they were undecided, even if they indicated a projected major.
- Most institutions have various admissions officers assigned to difference colleges (Engineering, Business, Nursing, Music, Arts and Sciences etc...). Each college will have its own standards and expectations. However, in most cases, they will not care whether the applicant specifies which sub-speciality (Mechanical vs Electrical, History vs Economics etc...) he/she is interested in.
There are exceptions of course. For example, it is possible that female applicants to Engineering programs are at a slight advantage, or that male applicants have better odds of getting into Brown. But those are situational, and not necessarily true.
The answer used to be most but sadly that answer is changing. You need to provide more info to get better help. State of residence? Budget? Size of preferred school?
Some majors like engineering always require you know upfront or early because of the structured curriculum.
