Which Colleges can I get in?

In a nutshell, I wasn’t motivated until the end of last (Sophomore) year.

GPA UW 9-11: ~3.55
GPA W 9-11: ~3.69
GPA UW 10-11: ~3.92 (UC ~3.9167)
GPA W 10-11: ~4.14 (UC ~4.167)

Took no honors freshman or sophomore year, and I took crappy science courses those 2 years (Earth and Life Science). My Freshman year is terrible to the point that it’s embarrassing to mention it here.

Community Service: nothing special
ECs: Almost none lol. (advice on how to increase EC would be appreciated…)

Honors / AP classes: Junior (this year) - H Chem, H Precalculus, AP Art History
Senior year (projected) - AP Stats, Calculus BC, English Lit, Micro Econ, Environ. Sci., Physics B
AP Tests: Took 10 this year; confident I passed all of them, and that I got 4/5 on majority of them. …Was it a good idea though? Will colleges think I’m obsessed with APs?

SAT: 2100 (660 R, 740 M, 700 W) & 2090 (680, 740, 670)
SAT II: Will take in June. Projected scores - 800 on Math II, 750+ on USH, 750+ on Chem

I don’t expect amazing recommendations from school either. Maybe good ones from certain teachers, though.

I would appreciate thoughts on which types colleges I HAVE A CHANCE of getting in:
Top private Universities
Selective, but not top, private Universities
UC Berkeley, LA, and SD
Mediocre prviate Universities
Cal State LA
etc.

If you can afford them, I’d try some private colleges. Are you sure that’s your UC GPA? The UCs just count soph and junior years, only A- G classes, and with no honors soph year it would be hard to make the top 3. Other UCs maybe and Cal State LA should be no problem. With privates you’re not looking at the top but many good ones would like the trend you show.

Yea I only used courses on the A-G list and only from my Sophomore/Junior year. My biggest bet is the improvement that I’ve shown, from below a 3.0 Freshman year to a 4.5 for last semester. But I highly doubt that will help me significantly.

Which types of private colleges should I aim for?

If you are full pay I’d look to schools on the BU level as possibilities.

I don’t think money will be any problem.

I’m not really that familiar with BU. What are its notable programs?

I haven’t really looked into any college in depth, to be honest. Which universities are strong in:
Astronomy / Physics / Cosmotology
Theoretical Physics
Particle Physics
Math
International Studies & Law

Currently I’m aiming for Berkeley, followed by SD, then LA. I honestly don’t know what are my chances for those schools. I’m also interested in Cornell but I think I need to have a reality check on that one.

Any other suggestions?

Also, there some some really important information I need to know. Which colleges take your freshman GPA into their calculations? Which colleges ask you to send your first semester Senior grades, and then take them into calculations?

Berkeley might be a slight reach, but your grades look good.
Boston University would be math for you, maybe Liberal Arts college in the top 30 or so like Occidental, College of the Holy Cross and University of Richmond. Or in California UC-Davis and UC-San Diego??
And maybe University of Pittsburg and Clemson?

Thanks for the input.

Any other suggestions?

I definitely suggest Clemson!

University of Rochester, Johns Hopkins, and Rice. Case Western as safety. Look at University of Chicago. They have the programs that you want, and they are less grade and score oriented than other top schools. They also care less about ECs.

I think there is thread on schools that don’t count freshman grades. Maybe you can find that. I seem to remember that one is U. Michigan?? It has rolling admissions and you need that on your list so you can hope to have something early. You might want to look at LACs for whom your scores are at the top of their range because they may not be as picky about grades ----check Skidmore, F&M …basically U.S. news 25-35, I think.

Here’s what I came up with (my knowledge is pretty limited to colleges in NC), I posted some quality public schools as well:

North Carolina State University
Appalachian State University
Liberty University (if you happen to be interested in a Christian college)
Wingate
Lenoir Rhyne University

Bucknell, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette

I’m unfamiliar with most of these colleges, so info would be appreciated.

I’m only looking for secular schools; I don’t want to attend any with a religious affiliation.

What are LACs?

Also, does anyone know which colleges take your senior first semester GPA into calculation?

help anyone?
