I realize there aren’t very many, but having recently spotted UMass Amherst and a couple others that say it’s optional for transfer applicants to send SAT scores, I figured I’d see if there were any others that do that…
My son scored 1580/1600 on the SAT and has a 4.0 gpa through 50 units of CC, but with zero work experience, few ECs and no flashy hook, a “holistic” review might not work in his favor, so I’m curious about colleges that do take transfers’ SAT scores into consideration.
SAT scores and high school records matter more for those with less of a college record. Those with more of a college record will be reviewed mostly or exclusively based on college record.
A 4.0 GPA college record should be pretty good for transfer admission, assuming good course selection applicable to intended major and other requirements of the target college.
From my transfer experience, I found that most colleges will look at your SAT if you send it in. Of course, it won’t make as much of a difference as it does in freshman applications… But they will still consider it.
There are also numerous schools that actually require you to submit your SAT scores. All Ivy League schools (except for Brown and some Cornell programs) do. Amherst College also strongly encourages their transfer applicants to submit their SAT scores. University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill requires you to submit your SAT if you have less than 60 credits. Babson College requires you to submit your score, no matter how many credits you have. So do Boston College, Tufts, and Georgetown… There are so many others. Almost all colleges in top 20 actually require you to submit your SAT score regardless of the number of credits you have.
