Which colleges have Loan Free Guarantees?

So I heard that Princeton will guarantee will guarantee that you will not have a loan- are there any other colleges/universities that you’ve heard of that make the same (or somewhat similar) guarantee?

You can find that info here: [Project on Student Debt: Summary of Pledges: Eligibilty Guidelines and Basic Provisions](http://projectonstudentdebt.org/Type_and_Coverage.vp.html).

Does that include oos students for the public ones on that list?

UNC & UVA = yes. Others = no.

Hmm, according to the website at UNC you have to be a dependent student whose parents qualify for income limit. I guess they don’t want everyone getting married and claiming independence or something. 30% loans for the independents.

A lot of time the loan free policies have some sort of income cap. The absence of loans also assumes that students and parents can pay the expected parent and student contribution. (Even the most generous colleges are going to want students to pay between 1.5k and 4k per year). If not (say, the student took an internship one summer instead of working), then the student would have to take loans instead to cover the student contribution.

I get the income cap and the required contribution. Just find it odd that you have to be dependent to even qualify. (I’m a full time independent student looking at transferring somewhere with good FA)

I don’t think it’s odd that these pledges are for dependent students only, because there is nobody else in the house hold to support.

NotAClue, the other technicality (which I found) is that these pledges do not necessarily extend to transfer students.

Good luck!

Yeah I know. I’m pretty much set on my plan. Already sent in my applications. If I don’t get in or get enough FA I’m going to wait one more semester and go to my state school.

I just wanted to make sure I don’t leave any stones unturned.
