<p>Where should I apply? My parents say a 31 on ACT won’t cut it for Ivys. What are the best schools I could get into with my stats?</p>

<p>I would recommend that you look at the Common Data Set for the schools you’re considering (if available). This is a great resource and provides a ton of data as reported by the school – the way to find it is google “[name of school] Common Data Set”. Alternately, most good college guides – which should be available for purchase or at your library have admissions data.</p>
<p>Anyway, as to your question – your ACT would be about average for students who enroll at Cornell, and a bit below average (though still in the range) for those who enroll at Dartmouth and Penn.</p>
<p>It’s tough to guage your chances, since different schools have different weighting systems for GPA, so although 4.36 is undoubtedly good, I have no idea how good. However, if I had to make a guess:</p>
<p>Your stats will probably be a bit light for schools like Harvard, Yale, etc, but will line up well with the admitted classes for many of the 'Top 20" schools. The problem is that almost all of the Top 20 have admissions %s of <20%, so many many students whose stats are competitive are rejected from any one of these schools.</p>
<p>One could say that these are a ‘reach’ for anyone (based on the numbers game) or say that they’re a match for someone line you (based on the fact that your stats match up with the average student). Take your pick.</p>
<p>In the end, if this is what you want, you should apply to a number of these schools as “match-reach”. I’d say grab the USNWR college report (which also has some of the data on admissions) and apply to at least 4 -6 in the top 20-25 to have a good chance at getting into at least one. </p>
<p>Then apply to a few schools that are less selective to fill out your list and find at least one safety, just in case.</p>
