I am a high school senior interested in applying to a number of schools and was wondering what my chances of getting in are based upon my SATs, GPA, Class Rank, recs and extra-curriculars.

SAT 680 cr 670 m 690 w 2040 total
SAT II (pretty bad, not sure whether to submit) Math lvl II 570 World History 610

GPA: My boarding school does not have GPA or the traditional A B C grading system. However, my counselor estimated that my GPA is a 3.3 and my class rank is in the top 20 %.

Extra-curricularly, I participate in numerous activities not affiliated with a school. My activities are listed in order of their importance to me.

Weichi (an ancient Asian board game similar to chess) master rank played for 4 years

Tennis (my small school doesn’t have a team, but my summer tennis coach estimated me at about 10th seed on a large hs team) 7 years

Avidly reading fantasy and science fiction books 8 years + existentialist books for 2 years

School store supervisor 1 year
-Listening to unusual music (classical and metal) 2 years
-playing acoustic guitar 2 years; I’m still terrible
-kayaking 4 years
-bouldering (climbing large boulders without equipment) 2.5 years
-Red Cross volunteering 4 hours (I quit because I did not think giving out sugary food to blood donors meant anything)

Which of these matter the most?

College List

Reach:
Bates (applied ED,good interview, wrote good supplement)
Brandeis (yet to complete)

Middle:
Clarke ( yet to complete
Hobart and William Smith ( yet to complete)
Ursinus (supplement is class work, submitting 10 page paper)

Safety:
Saint Michael’s (interview, went badly)
Saint Anselm (interview, went well)

I hope the 3 recs I asked my favored teachers to write are good.

Bates and Brandeis seem like reaches given your approximate GPA. Clarke,
Hobart and William Smith, Ursinus, Saint Michael’s, and Saint Anselm are pretty much safeties.

Your SAT’s, ECs and GPA are alright. Your class rank is very good. I would say you have a fair to good chance at Bates, and a very good chance at the middles.

please don’t tell me ye put reading fantasy books for 8 years and listening to unusual music for 2 years as EC’s…?

playing weiqi is a good unique EC though, and with your scores, GPA and rank im pretty sure ye’d make it to most, if not all the colleges on yer list

Listening to classical music isn’t an E.C… Haha:) but bates is an awesome school. Good luck and if you get in, bring tons of warm clothes. It’s freezing.

I’m guessing you should be able to get into your safeties and matches/mid-range schools. I’m not familiar with Bates, but you’ve got a shot at Brandeis.

You would definitely need better EC’s and some more volunteering would help. I am also applying to Hobart and William Smith- its my second choice after SU. My GPA is lower than yours and my test scores ( what did you get on the ACT’s if you took them?) and I still am pretty confident I can get accepted to HWS. I also kept in great contact with a coach there and the admissions staff.
