Which colleges should I apply as in where do I have a good chance of getting in with a full financial aid as I come from a poor family in India. Also I would like to go to canada so if anyone knows which canadian universities would be likely to sponsor a student like me, it would be really nice Though any college with full financial aid will be nice :)

Most colleges in the US do not offer a lot of aid to international students. Int’l students who require a lot of aid have limited choices and your scores are not good enough to apply to colleges that offer good aid to international students (eg: the Ivies, Williams, Amherst).

However, U of Alabama offers A LOT to students who get high ACT/SAT scores. See here: scholarships.ua.edu/types/outofstate.html

If you take the ACT again and get a 32, you can get the presidential scholarship which will cover your entire tuition. There are some costs that are not covered, however.

Canadian universities are often much cheaper than american ones, but I’m not sure which ones would offer full scholarships. McGill is a possibility, but I think you may need a higher IB score so i’m not sure.

Also maybe, drop Physics HL to SL; you’d be able to free up a lot of time (seeing as you’re taking 4 HLs right now which is not normal). You can bring up your predicted grade to a 6 in that, and spend more time studying for your other subjects as well. (I’m assuming you’re in 11th grade?)

I accidentally put 4 HL’s though actually my chemistry is an SL course and I am currently at a score of 6, I dont know if this will help but I am a UWC student so if anyone out there knows which colleges are more generous to UWC students in specific. Also I hear canada has few UWC specific scholarships, if anyone knows a few apart from SFU it would be nice to know :D

I am fairly certain that Canadian universities do not offer any aid to international students.

phantom0308, full financial aid is highly unlikely for an international student with less than perfect credentials. Getting into schools this sort of aid requires significantly stronger grades (at least a 39 on the IB and 32 on the ACT). Being Indian will also put you at a disadvantage. There are many highly qualified Indians applying to US universities.

As Truust suggests, Alabama may be a good option. The University of Minnesota-Twin Cities is also a great option. Minnesota costs $30k/year all in, and they offer scholarships to students with strong grades and scores. Be sure to apply as early as possible to most universities. The later you apply, the less likely you are to get in, or to get a scholarship. Definitely complete your applications no later than late October or early November.

UWC’s are amazing in that they will provide you with scholarships to several top-ranked American colleges because the international education you receive there is so valued.
Are you a boy or a girl?
Check out:
<a href=“Partner Institutions | Davis UWC Scholars”>http://www.davisuwcscholars.org/partners
Based on the information above, there are lots of possibilities for you provided you don’t aim for colleges ranked in the top 25. Clarke, Earlham, Kalamazoo, Randolph-Macon… are all matches or safeties, and you could even try for some higher ones like Macalester or Occidental.

I asked because there are women’s colleges on the list. As a boy, obviously, you can’t apply .
Look into each partner college and let us know which ones you like, we’ll tell you which are reaches, matches, and safeties. You can of course apply to colleges outside this list. :)

I was thinking about colorado college though my goal is really to get the UWC scholarship in SFU, do you think that such a scholarship is within my reach ? just in case here is the link.

Which UWC? I heard the one in Pune gives $15,000 to many of its graduating students from a friend there, but I don’t know if that’s true for certain.

@phantom0308, I don’t know much about it since I don’t go to school there. A friend just mentioned in a conversation once that some students graduating from MUWCI get a large lump sum scholarship when they graduate ($15k if I recall correctly) - this isn’t definitive… it was just something he happened to mention so I’m not sure if this is actually true. He mentioned this a couple years ago and I don’t remember what the requirements were. Try to ask around at your school.
