Hi, i’m kinda new to this, and i was hoping u guys could help. What colleges can i get into, with these stats: 9th grade gpa: 2.58(due to intense bullying), 10th:3.2(4.0 in third semester), 11th:4.0 so cumulitive of 3.24ish(all four years, i took physics, chem, and bio at the same time, along with history and geo). EC’s:founder and president of robotics club, in environmental club, MUN, play guitar, won 1st place in school science fair, learn wushu(chineas martial arts), working on some projects that would eliminate drought, did some walk/run events for disabled children, and i play tennis. Im great at essays, let’s say i got 2210 on the SAT, and got amazing recomendations. Im ethiopian, if that helps. So, where would i get accepted into for Mech. Engineering?

HYPSM might be too far fetch for you, but you might have a pretty good chance at Cornell or Cal Tech. Do you have any idea on where you want to go?

I know its a suuper reach, but Stanford is my dream college, and im not sure if Michigan State University is a reach or a target. Thanks for the reply, by the way. Do u really think i could get accepted into Cornell or Caltech?

And if you don’t mind me asking, what’s HYPSM?

Look for schools that do not count GPA from freshman year. That would bring your GPA above 3.5.

HYPSM is just an acronym for Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, MIT. Basically those schools are pretty much reaches no matter what scores you have.

With a score of 2210 on your SAT and a good GPA in your senior year, I think you could very easily get into Michigan State, perhaps even with an academic scholarship of some sorts.

Also I sorta disagree with peter, I think Cal Tech would be a reach, but cornell could be possible.
Consider Georgia Tech, UC Berkely and UIUC for engineering. I’m fairly certain you have a good chance for those schools.

Thank you so much,Billcsho and Truust, for your replies. And i was wondering, what would be my safety’s, target, and reach colleges?

With a 2210 and a 3.2 I suggest that you apply to schools that are ranked 20+. Your GPA makes the top 20 schools reaches.

Penn State University Park; top 5 engineering college, top 15 public, top tier ‘college experience’

Thank you very much, collegeeager and notmeantforivy, for your replies. i really appreciate it.
