Also, my uncle attended Princeton(undergrad) and Harvard(grad).

I am going to an optional interview for Northwestern. Would this optional interview help me for admission?

Can anybody predict where I could be accepted?

Gender and ethnicity?

The UCs you have a good chance. The Ivies and Stanford are kind of reach though… get a super score on your next ACT though…at least in the 30s. Definitely do the interview if you are comfortable with interviewing and talking to others. Even though many people say they barely count for anything, it will help you learn about the college and show that you are definitely interested in attending. Good Luck with everything!

I only specified my ethnicity on USC’s and the UC’s apps. I am Filipino American(born in California).

I am a male.

your ACT scores are a bit low

I know.

My counselor states that I am from a low socioeconomic area on my recommendation. My school’s API score(perofrmance score used in CA) is around 600.

Also, she(my college counselor) mentioned that I attended the Princeton Humanities symposium on the recommendation she wrote for me.

Only one person beats me, in terms of SAT/ACT score, in my Senior class this year. She scored a 2040. I scored a 27(=1820).

The person who beat me is about in about 7-10th in class rank.

I’m in ELC(Eligibility in Local Context Program) for the UCs.

Also, I’ll be a 2nd generation high school/college graduate(my grandmother didn’t finish elementary school and my parents attended college.)

even taking socio-economic context into account, low ACT, low SAT IIs probably mean you would fare too well at HYPS. for berkeley and la, are you applying as engineering? even at L&S, your ECs and excellent gpa will not make up for what is (in my mind) a somewhat unbalanced application. to be honest, there are plenty of people (maybe 20?) with similar gpas, ecs, and at least a 100 with better sats and sat iis all applying to similar schools.

I’m not applying as engineering.

Do I have a chance at Northwestern, if my interview goes well?

Hopefully, colleges will not solely look at my test scores.

Do I have a chance at HYPS and the other universities I listed?
Also, I know HYPS is a group of very selective universities.

lol i have no idea (about Northwestern) i’m doing the interview as well. from what i hear, interviews dont have a significant impact (because it would be unfair should other applicants not have access to it)

Should I mention that I am writing grants for my high school for my Senior Proect(required for my high school) to the various colleges I applied?

As I said earlier, where would i be accepted?

Also, iX3demosthenes, are you in state for the UCs? Where are you interviewing for Northwestern?

Any other opinions?

All UCs except UCLA and UC-Berkeley are sure shots.

Your ECs aren’t too hot
Only in-school awards, and you participate in many clubs, but few leadership positions (presidents would be nice).
Also, I’m pretty sure NSHSS is like Who’s Who in terms of prestige, so that might not be too good on Ivy apps.

Your grades must be pretty good, but the low (relative to ivies) test scores raise some eyebrows - possibly grade inflation. If you can get the test scores up, I think you have a legitimate shot. Not sure how the uncle will factor in at Princeton, will he count as legacy?

too low ACT score.

If you are not applying as or being considered as an underrepresented minority (URM) than I think your chances of getting accepted outside of CA are unfortunately slim. The reasons for this are that your scores relative to other applicants are low and your HS has limited experience at many of the schools on your list.

If however, you are considered as an URM, than your chances change somewhat. I think that many schools will look favorably on you and your background.

Within CA, I think Berkeley and UCLA may be reaches.

Good luck.

I know people, who graduated from my high school, who got accepted to Berkeley and UCLA with scores around 1800.

I’m still hoping for Northwestern. Having admissions based on test scores just annoys me(I know this has been said a million times). If test scores weren’t important, then I would have a much better chance of being accepted into universities, which I would like to attend.

Hopefully, everybody gets into the univerisities they want to attend.

Anyway, which universities are a low reach for me?

Would Northwestern be a low reach for me? Do I have a possiblity of being accepted into the university?
