Which do you think would be his best shot for ED II?

My son is considering applying ED II to either BU or GW. He really loves both schools a lot and would be thrilled to attend either one. The problem is this, his SAT is well within their median 50% if not even a little above, but his GPA is below. He had a very weak 9th grade year due to some issues within our family and this really affected his output. Since then, though he has defenitely been on an upward trend, improving every year. This year he is in really tough clases, the hardest the school offers, and has 2 A’S 2 B’s and 1 C. He has strong letters of recomm., good ec’s, is first gen. student, and is overall a great kid who has a lot of potential. He is a very talented writer and got a perfect score on the writing section. So now that you know that, which school do you think he has a better shot at getting into should he decide to apply ED II to one of them? He really wants to, but is having a tough time deciding which. I know BU has the gen. studies program that he could fall back on which GW does not so this is a consideration. Please give me your honest answer. Thank you in advance.

From what I’ve seen, BU is an easier school to get into. Not sure about this year though, Boston’s a popular spot for college.

My vote goes for BU. If possible, he should picture himself at one of the two schools and see whether, if he went there, he’d regret not going to the other. Sometimes we have a favorite but we don’t know it.

I don’t think there’s a significant difference.

The more important question: Where does he WANT to go?

Seriuosly he really likes both schools equally. These have been his top two for a very long time. He is totally split and really wants some input. With BU he may stand a slightly stronger chance because they could always fall back and offer him the gen. studies program if they can’t put him in their comm. school at this time, any more thoughts?

I believe that BU did away with ED II this year.

Congratulations on your son’s 800 in writing on the SAT. That section actually has, I believe, the hardest curve so he is quite rare to get that. Make sure that the school he applies to considers the writing section. Some don’t. Sounds like he has lots of talent and will be successful in college.

mammal, thanks. GW does for a fact, and he has decided as of today that he is going to apply to GW afterall, so we will see what happens. Thank you for your advice!
