Which dorms still have unfilled spots if you committed April 30?

My friend committed on April 30 and wants to live in South Campus (which she put down as her first choice dorm on the housing application). Does she have a good chance at getting it? Which dorms still have open spots at this time?

There should be enough spots for her in South Campus.

Okay thanks!

There probably won’t be spots left. I committed April 27 last year and had Max P, South Campus, and BJ as my three choices. I got none of them. Any other dorm (besides Snitchcock) would probably have room at that date.

This problem is likely worse now that Pierce is being torn down and the College has over-enrolled again.

Another thing to consider is that with the closing of Pierce, a lot of Pierce residents staying in housing entered the general lottery to get rooms in South. This coupled with high retention rates in South may make getting a spot more difficult.

If I submitted April 23rd and I had Max, South and New Grad, do you think I could get one of them (preferably Max or South)?

Last year I submitted around 4/15 and wasn’t placed into Max (my first option). South may also be a doubt because it seems to be extremely in demand this year.

Wow, I’m worried now. Submitted 4/1. Do you think I will get a spot in South or Max?

Could you post a general idea what date we need to submit to get certain dorms?

I can’t say anything definitively. Snitchcock probably fills up soon after EA decisions come out. From talking to classmates, I got the impression that all dorms are fair game until Ivy League regular decisions. After that, it’s really a toss-up.

I submitted March 30. Requested Max first. Then South second. Then BJ Third. What do you think are the chances of my getting into my first choice?

^ I submitted on March 28th and requested the exact same three in that order…

From what I’ve heard, Snitchcock goes pretty early (committing before Ivy Day early), while BJ might go by the middle of April. Some people on college confidential have said that they deposited on 4/30 and still got spots in Max/South, but I think that varies year by year and this year’s housing retention might be a little higher than normal. (I’m an incoming freshman though so this is just from my research on here.)

@Capzerve I think that you should be pretty safe for Max P though!

In addition to when things are submitted, there is also a part that actual people put together housing assignments. Especially when it comes to assigning roommates, some students who submitted later may still end up in a more popular dorm.

From the housing website:

It doesn’t sound like roommate matching alone would cause someone to be shut out of their three choices. But I could see a borderline case in which someone has a strong preference for a type of roommate, and the few spots left in their choice dorms don’t allow for that match.

Dear cellist, thank you for your message and information. Best wishes to you!
