Hello! This is really silly… but is there a word limit to the Common App’s main essay?

Also, Notre Dame University wants only one essay. I’m torn between which essay to put in there:

1) An essay that explains my upward trend in grades
OR
2) An essay that shows my personality and how I’m a curious and inquisitive person.

Which essay would be better to turn in? I used to do poorly in the 9th grade but my grades have a huge upward trend so I wanted to explain that. Sadly, there is only one essay so that means I can’t turn in both essays! Can someone help me choose?

I was wondering if I should turn in the essay that talks about my newfound love for learning and inquisitiveness since my teacher probably spoke about my upward trend in her recommendation. Maybe by talking about my curiosity and love for learning, it will buttress that idea that I’ve come a long way and now strive to achieve?

There is no maximum word limit but don’t get too carried away…Most people say 500 is the optimal number but if you can’t shrink your essay without changing the overall message/feel/etc of it, then you should let it be.

Anyways, I think you should turn in your second essay. I don’t think you really need to write an entire essay explaining an uptrend in your grades since admissions officers will already see that you developed academically by just looking at your grades. The second essay will show the admissions people something about you that they can’t see through your grades/test scores…and if you really want to, you could probably have a small passage explaining your uptrend in the second essay…
