My transcript lists 6 different GPAs: academic 9-12, academic 10-12, and total GPA, and the nonweighted versions of these. Applications specify if they want weighted or unweighted, but do not say if they want academic or total and 10-12 or 9-12. My counselor wrote to put academic GPA 10-12, but this doesn’t seem right to me; the counselors at my school are notoriously incompetent (all chisme and no work). I’d like to report academic 10-12 because that is the highest one, but I don’t want to make it seem like my GPA is higher than it really is.
I think that you should ask the admissions people at the schools that you are applying to.
My first instinct was 9-12 total weighted, but I am not sure. It would be best to ask what each individual college wants.
Hmm…It wouldn’t hurt to ask. That said, I’m assuming your counselor knows what he/she is doing. I think you could leave it as is and just walk away, trusting in your counselor, but if you want to pursue this further, I would go to the counselor first, asking why that GPA and not the 9-12.
Typically colleges are looking at the 9-12 GPA.
