I took a 1 credit class which is a problem solving course to assist students with the Gen Physics I lecture. I will likely end up with a C+ in Physics or a B-. Should I take the “S” or should I take the C+? I like the “S” because it will not impact my GPA. On the other hand, an S means you got at least a C-. This course really isn’t of any importance nor does it matter towards my degree. I am just trying to determine what would look better on a transcript. I am leaning towards an “S” since it will not affect my GPA, but I am unsure. I currently have a 3.7 GPA.

I would get a C+ or B- letter grade in Physics.

I am talking about a course called “Problem Solving for Physics”. It is just a 1 credit class which some students can take to see some homework based problems worked out on the board and such. This class is NOT necessary whatsoever. I took it because I needed 1 more credit to achieve full-time status.

Well if it’s a pointless 1 credit class then take the S so it won’t effect your GPA. If someone is looking at your transcript and they see the S I doubt they’ll care if it was in a 1 credit homework class, especially if you’ve done well in your actual physics class. With that said, a 1 credit C+ is not really going to effect your GPA that much in the long run. Not a big deal either way but I’d take the S.

I don’t think your boss would even look at your transcript that seriously as long as you have a solid GPA… I mean low GPA can affect potential scholarships and internships on campus…

If S doesn’t affect your GPA and won’t even require re-take. S is obviously better than C or C- or C+

In the grand scheme of things, 1 credit isn’t going to matter much regardless of the grade.

Say you finish college with a 3.7 after a 120 credit hours. That’s 444 total grade points. (444/120 = 3.7)

If you get a C+ in a 1 credit class you are adding 2.5 more points to your total grade points, and adding 1 more hour to your total credit hours. So your final GPA will be 446.5/121 = 3.69

So in the long run you are debating over .01 of a GPA point…which is very insignificant.
