Which grades are more important?

My background is chemical engineering and chemistry, but my graduate school focus is IR, Japan related.

My engineering grades were decent, but I also took 5-6 classes on East Asian stuff as an undergrad, and have straight As across the board (except Japanese, I got an A- in each of the two semesters I took it due purely to attendance issues when taking my mom in for cancer radiation).

Obviously overall GPA is going to matter, but since I’m going into a field completely outside my major will they weigh the engineering grades or the EAS courses grades heavier (since I want my IR to be EAS focused) when making an admissions decision?
