Which grades does Harvard count?

I know that some schools don’t take freshman grades, and although I’m fairly certain that Harvard does, where is the cutoff point?

I took some sort of IQ/Gifted test in third grade, and my school district jumped me to sixth grade. I did very poorly because I really hated it, and they dropped me back to my grade level, but kept me taking courses that were a couple years ahead. Will the high school classes like IPS Hon., Algebra Hon, etc… that I took in 7th/8th grade be considered in my UW GPA by Harvard? They are marked with a Y or something on my transcript, but my school does include them. They’re bringing my average down because I wasn’t very mature, and I didn’t care about my grades at all.

Thanks for the help.

Harvard will not consider your 7th/8th grade scores. But they will recognize that you took classes that were advanced for your grade level. Harvard (unlike Princeton) does not recalculate your GPA without your freshman year, but I’m sure that they would give it less weight, than say, junior year, which is more indicative of where you are now as a student.

Overall, if Harvard sees an upward grade trend through high school/middle school, they will veiw this as a positive. Honestly, I wouldn’t be worried about this if I were you.

Thanks for the input… It is the one thing that has been really bugging me when I see people with their 4.0’s getting denied. If you were to take 7/8/9th off of my record I would have one too :/

Glad to hear that info about 7/8 though, thanks.
