Which Internship is Better?

I am trying to decide between the following internships at: Northwestern Mutal, Smith Barney, and First Republic Group.

The one at NM is basically a general purpose one, they say they will provide you with excellent pratical experience and it is rated one of the top ten internships by vault.com.

The one at Smith Barney is another general purpose one but requires me to pay costly relocation expenses.

The one at First Republic Group is a relatively new brokerage firm. However I would recieve a Series 7 license and get a more focused and detailed experience in trading/investing in equites, mutal funds, venture capital, and bonds than at the other firms. I would also have the potential for more client interaction.

My quesiton is, based on this information which should I accept? My goal is chosing the best one that allows for the best internship the summer before my senior year (I am a rising junior now) that would land me a career in either Ibanking, equity sales and trading, or Investment Management?

Also as a sophmore what is generally better in your view for an internship: big name company that has less practical experience, or small company that has specific pratical experience that will carry over to your future career?

herst, pick the bigger name one. From the recruiters I’ve spoken to, they rather have you be a blank slate when they get you after junior year so they can mold you…previous internships they just want to know you can handle a heavy work load and professional environment…which is easier to prove if you worked at a major reputable place.

I would go with Smith Barney. The name is excellent which can help leverage you into a better internship the following year.

FFFFFFFFF NORTHWESTERN MUTUAL

they are a multi level marketing (MLM) scheme company. essentially, its a pyramid scheme with more work and a superficial facade of legitimacy. theyll probably support you to get a series 6 while the ppl who hold series 7s will reap your customers. most people who work at MLMs quit within a year, not to mention you lose all of your friends and family. please search on wikipedia for the company, its no joke.

btw, i’d choose smith barney in a millisecond.

btw, similar companies to avoid include:

primerica, world financial group, and basically all the ones that you sell insurance for
