I know it depends on schools but please give me your opinion and I’ll see how the majority turns out…

I didn’t think APUSH was hard at all.

I got a 5 on the AP test after just reviewing the Kaplan flash cards

Well @ my school AP Bio takes the cake in the dificulty department. We worked our buts off all last year and most of us passed abot 14 of 16. Also @ my school APUSH is a joke 7 out of 30 kids passed the test this year.
But that is just because the teacher was lazy and did not like grading tests or assingments so we had very few. I have heard from other students that Bio is the hardest AP class except for Calc.

It depends on you, mostly. I thought, though, that Bio had more facts to memorize, however, both are mainly composed of memory work.

APUSH is super easy.

Anything with the word biology in it is by default more difficult. Of course it’s harder than US history, come on, US HISTORY?!
I’m not biased either. I promise that bio will be harder than ushistory.

For a quick anecdote this year (skip this, it’s pretty ranty-ish).

this year in regular bio…about the only class where I regularly get C’s on tests in reality, but the curves always bring it back to a B…LOL. (I ended up with 90.001 in that class, baller. that’s because i lost my textbook the FOURTH week of school and found it the day before finals (next-to-lastday of school) and studied that day the entire book…so 100% on the finals i had a low grade before cuz I had a 32.45% in hw lmao).

I thought that APUSH was far, far more difficult than AP biology, both in terms of class difficulty and regarding the AP test.

Bio is a traditionally freshman class and one of the easiest APs to take at my school (the teacher has like a ~97% pass rate) and US is among the hardest (with a lower pass rate, I bet).

The bio test was a piece of cake, I’m confident that even w/out the FR I would have managed a 5. The US test unfortunately did not give me such assurance (still a 5 though :)).

I’m biased, of course, but I felt that bio was a cake walk and US one of the hardest classes available at my school.

Apparently, APUSH is super-easy because in some state (I think South or North Carolina?), everyone has to take it, so there is a giant curve. :D

Grade Distribution from 2007 (%):

Biology:
5 - Extremely Well Qualified - 19.3
4 - Well Qualified - 20.3
3 - Qualified - 21.2
2 - Possibly Qualified - 23.2
1 - No Recommendation - 15.9

US History:
5 - Extremely Well Qualified - 11.1
4 - Well Qualified - 19.9
3 - Qualified - 22.2
2 - Possibly Qualified - 26.2
1 - No Recommendation - 20.6

The grade distribution means nothing… often it is just a reflection of how many people took the test (because the more test-takers, the more skewed the sample of test-takers is towards the worse performances).

Look at AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism. One of the harder tests, but it has probably the highest rate of 5’s (~40%) because the people who take the test are very self-selected.

yeah i took APUSH this past year and it was extremely easy(almost no hw, tests all graded with an ENORMOUS curve ect…although i got a 4 on the exam however from what I hear AP Bio is a rather difficult AP class from talking to several of my friends who did take it…

I didn’t say they meant anything, I just copy/pasted the numbers for anyone who was curious.

One could argue that the factor which most accounts for the difference in distributions is societal perception of the “easiness” of the subject matter: that’s why the English and social studies exams tend to have a much lower pass/5 rate than their math-science counterparts.

I got a 5 on APUSH from only using the textbook.

I thought APUSH was significantly harder than AP Bio. It might have been the difference in teaching style, or maybe my interest in the subject. But I felt that APUSH had much more work and memorization and the test was harder.

But, as you can see in this thread, individual opinions differ quite a bit.

Both are easy.

It depends on your interest in the subjects. I personally love biology so AP Bio was easy for me. AP USH was boring as crap, but I still did well in the class.

APUSH at my school is a harder class. As for the tests, I found Bio harder, but that’s only because I self-studied it.

I don’t know, but I’m taking both this year!

It depends which subject you’re better in.
I thought AP Bio was a lot harder than APUSH, but I still passed both exams.

I personally enjoyed both classes, but both were challenging. I’d probably have to go with APUSH being slightly harder simply because I’ve always been a biology person.
