Which is Harder to Get In: Day or Boarding (Boston Area)?

Middlesex, Concord Academy, and St. Marks…which is harder (or easier) to get into for 9th grade…the boarding or day school program?

I’m not sure anyone knows that. As far as I know schools don’t publish data on # of applicants for boarding vs # of applicants for day. I suppose you can call and just ask. I think there was a poster recently who was told one or the other was a more likely option by an ao.

I don’t expect published stats. Just opinions based on some experiences. Thanks!

Day. More kids who are qualified due to excellent public schools and many well heeled folks near most of the best BS in the Boston area ( plus legacies). Many go in as boarders so they get accepted. Also, most schools except CA have fewer number of day students. Some top athletes want those spots so they can continue their club sport so it’s competitive. You can ask the school. I don’t know of a single one that is more competitive for boarders though.

Any BTW, was talking with an AO who said hardest category was day girls. I thought that was interesting. Never had really thought of it. Reason is, girls tend to do better in middle school academically.

@Periwinkle or @vwlizard do I remember reading your take on this? I searched and couldn’t find it, so perhaps I’m mistaken.
