Which is more competitive: Cal or Hopkins

MCB in Cal vs. BME in Hopkins. By more competitive I mean the amount of time people need to spend/the number of people who get As.

Well, the notion at my school is that Hopkins is a better school. But then again, it costs a great deal more. I don’t know about study time, I think the better question is how many ave. hrs Cal students study…then go to Hopkin and ask the same question. (since it’s unlikely for Cal student to compare themselves to a school they don’t attend)

hmm… thats true. I guess what I am asking then is what percentage of people get As at berkeley and how many hours these people study per week?

Of Course this will VARY between students but I just want to get a general idea, thanx.

Well, what I’ve always been told by my dad is that Johns Hopkins is only good for medical school. Its undergrad premed is the most competitive program in the country (as in a lot of people who are all competing for As despite being a private), and besides its medical fields, Johns Hopkins isn’t as good for much else.

I’m sure there are plenty of people who disagree with this view, but I’ve always trusted my dad on info regarding medical school and health related careers since he’s in this field.

dill_Scout: While your dad may be in the medical field, he is completely wrong about Hopkins. It is true, of course, that Hopkins is known for pre-med. But you can safely tell your dad that Hopkins has top-ranked programs across the board. For example, its Writing Seminars program in always number 1 or 2 in the country; biomedical engineering is #1. Its International Relations (studies) program is among the top in the country, as are its history, foreign language, art history, and, I believe, economics program. If someone is interested in drama, there is no major on campus, but John Astin heads the department, and there is a minor. If you don’t know who he is, he is famous for portraying the father in the Addams’ Family films, as well as other movies. He is also a well-known director. He son is Sean Astin, whom I am sure you know. I could go on, but I am sure that others will add to my post. Enlighten your dad, and then carefully look over the web site, and any additional material you can get your hands on. Hopkins is a great place, and although I will be graduating very soon, I will cherish my memories, and value my education, forever.

3 years ago, I had to choose between Berkeley BioE and Hopkins BME. I chose Berkeley for monetary reasons and because Baltimore is kind of shady (shadier than Berkeley, at least).

lol shady. Both places are super competitive, I don’t think anybody can give you of an idea of how one is more than the other. You can look up GPA distributions
