Which is more competitive?

A person who takes 8 APs but gets A+ in every class
or

A person who takes 12 APs but gets A in every class

Person 1 has a higher GPA (valecdictorian) while person 2 basically took an extra one or two AP a year (I’m person 2)

I think it’s about the same.

Depends if the GPA is weighted for A+s (My school doesn’t differentiate between A and A+, so 12 APs would be more impressive)

my school does which is why the person with the 8 APs has a higher GPA

person 2, in my opinion A+'s are too high. It looks they’re working way too hard…

thanks guys :]
any more opinions?

In my school if you get an 89.5 as your final semester grade, you get the same grade as a person who gets a 100 for her final grade.

So basically it doesn’t matter at my school an A is an A no matter what.

person 1 has a higher GPA right?
wouldn’t that be better cuz you have the title of valedictorian

But person 1 doesn’t have as rigorous of a curriculum. It evens out in the end, I think–GPA vs. class rigor.

Though I would hope class rigor counts for more because I’m in a similar situation. :)

^ same
but does the loss of valedictorianship (that’s prolly not a word lol) matter?

i dont think so in this case. 12 APs versus 8 APs. Valedicotrian vs. saludatoriabn (sp?). I’d take the more rigorous courseload even if it meant a lower GPA. Challenging yourself overrules GPA imo.

lol i doubt its even possible to get an A+ in 8 AP classes, unless the teachers are incredibly lax.

…Not much difference in an A+ and an A?

Why are you posting this and worrying about something like this anyways?
…

I agree with the people who say person 2 (you) is more competitive. It’s difficult to take that many extra APs and still maintain As

i guess my actual question is does being a valedictorian really matter?
i’m not even saludatorian though

Hmm. I’d say that of course being valedictorian counts for something. I’m salutatorian at the moment, but I also have many more AP classes than our current val. My classes have been harder by FAR, and my overall grade average throughout high school is only like .1 less than that of our val. Sooo. Lol.

You are aware that some highly selective schools are rethinking the value of the AP program as a measure of one’s relative liklihood of success in college?
