Um for International relations, Johns Hopkins is one of the top 5 and/or top 2 programs in the country only dependent on who you ask.
For Politics: Johns Hopkins INVENTED the term “political science” and is a great school with fabulous access to politics in Baltimore (with the city’s Mayor being an alum), to the greater Maryland state (with many local politicians being alums), and to DC (with the short distance and the SAIS school’s MANY alums in DC, abroad, and that the new GOP chair is a JHU alum and Tim Geitner is a JHU alum as well).

hopkins, hands hown.

the only school i would even consider turning down Hopkins for, in those two fields, would be Georgetown…and even then, Hopkins is a stronger overall school with a stronger political science program.
