I am wondering about this, to avoid it for next year

I’m not sure which one is the oldest, but if you’re an incoming freshman then 337 Huntingdon is the way to go. It’s the best housing for freshman solely on the rooms (IV has more perks I think…); this year the pre-med LLC is in that building and they have the most space… and a kitchen.

A lot of the dorms are your average freshman dorms, there’s really no way to get around that. I’d say the worst right now is Speare, as the Stetsons just got renovated. If you’re going for the “best” dorms, I’d have to say that Kennedy, 337 or IV is the way to go. I think Kennedy has kitchens/living space, IV is just really nice, and all my friends live in 337 and their dorms are awesome.

Speare is by no means horrible. Son was there last year - rooms are small but they are clean -they are fine.

I don’t think you can ‘avoid’ a particular dorm if you are an incoming freshman, which I am assuming you are. Son was in engineering LLC which was actuallly in Speare last year, but I think that can change from year to year.

I agree, you land where you land and deal with it. My daughter’s room I consider to be the smallest dorm room I have ever seen, a double in Melvin, which is also inconveniently located when coming home alone late at night; but it does have the advantage of having private bathrooms instead of communal ones. On the other hand, the rooms in the front of Melvin are huge and luxurious compared to her closet-sized room, and if she’d landed in one of those, I’m sure this post would have a whole different point of view! And yes, it’s by the LLC, you choose that, not a dorm.

White is the worst. Has had problems with mice, and roaches every year.

White is typically seen as the worst. People talk down about Speare, and you’ll likely stay there for orientation. It’s cramped but there are no real problems. IV is obviously nice, but it’s also really loud as far as sirens and buses outside go, and if you go out, make sure you go out with someone else who lives in IV because Ruggles is just an odd place to be at night and you’ll have to walk through it to get anywhere (it’s nothing to worry about, just be safe).

But as has been said, you don’t pick housing. You pick an LLC. And the LLCs move every year, so you can’t pick an LLC based on where you think it will be. For example, someone mentioned the Engineering LLC was in Speare last year; this year, they are in Stetson, while the Corporate Explorers are in Speare. It always changes, other than Honors LLC, which is always in IV.

Speare and the Setesons are the typical Freshman dorms, that being said, it is the best freshman college dorm-life experience. I would say this is definitely where you want to be if you want to meet tons of people!
