Which IVY(s) would accept me?

Im a female, south asian, coming from new york city.
i go to midwood high school which is one of the most competetive and best high schools in the city and it is said “to be harder to get into than an ivy leauge” (haha)

My Average is a 95
My SAT score is a 2375
I have earned four 800s on four SAT IIs and one 750
I have recieved a 5,000 dollar scholorship from national merit
My rank is 45/702

AP classes - AP bio (5) AP english (5) AP psycology (5) ap chemistry (5) ap american (5) ap world (4)

I created my own fundraising club 2 years ago a few of my girl friends help me we have bake sales and fundraising events every month in the park or the city and we have our own website for people to donate money to cancer patients, we have raffles, games, food…so far we have raised 7,000 dollars…we have meetings every week and we make fliers and put boxes and collectors in many stores to raise money as well
I also volunteer in a hospital for stem cell research for 3 years
I am the president of the bio-med society and enviornmental club
Every earth day I get a bunch of kids from my school and we all clean up our neighborhoods
I’m also the writer for a big play in my school SING its traditional and our school created it, i’m also editor for our school newspaper, im on the debate and math team.

Summer Colleges- Columbia University and CUNY brooklyn college courses, I’m doing a summer course this Summer for George Washington University were i also won a 2,000 dollar scholorship for science

my awards- many soccer awards, arista, for my fundraisers, national honor society, merit, intel

I’ve been in varsity soccer for 3 years also.

How did you get a 2375? Or have the SAT’s changed from two years ago?

You can’t get a $5,000 scholarship from national merit. It’s $2500 or another amount from a corporate sponsor. Important distinction. And if you’re a junior, you wouldn’t find out about even being a FINALIST for such a scholarship until winter of next year.

And being 45/702, even at a great school, is going to be a problem. Places like Choate send 20 kids to Brown every year, but that’s really not typical. Odds are that stronger applicants from your school, against whom you would be judged, would overshadow you.

And you misspelled scholarship…

yo to the person above how did i just read some other kids thread and people were like apply forlike cornell and all these other ivy leagues and the guy had like a 55/500 rank and his scores and volunteering or nothing was better than this girls
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=356560

Their opinion, not mine. And he’s from Tennessee, which is significantly less competitive than New York City.

And if you look through those, you’ll see that several individuals, s snack for instance, cited Cornell as the ONLY Ivy he could get into.

SAT 2375… I don’t know how the heck you came up with that.

South Asian… Are you Filipino? They get AA.

No offense, and I realize I’ll probably be accused of conflict of interest. But still, it’s impossible to get a 2375, the scores are multiples of 10. The prize money for national merit is 2500, as people above me have noticed. How would this girl know she won it anyway? Most people figure that out in their senior year, after they start their college apps.

IheartEurope, I love Europe too, and please don’t compare me with others.

It is pretty obvious if you get 230 or above on the PSAT that you are going to get NMS.

I don’t think midwood high school is that great. This is what I found

Grade levels: 9-12
Graduation rate: 87%
Enrollment: 3,500
Class size: 31-34
Ethnicity: 33% W, 38% B, 9% H, 20% A
Average SATs: Verbal, 509; math, 537
Free lunch: 13%

A 45/702 at such a school might not be sufficient. But a 2370 and 4 800 on SATIIs should overcome that.

You are right about a 230 and above being guaranteed, but still, its a bit conceited to put your future accomplishments on your resume. I got a 236, but I dont have NMS finalist on my resume.

well my school seperated you tho, I’m in the medsci program which is the most competetive and best (well thats what my guidance counselers and other people say), the zone program is really bad but some kids apply for it so they can easily become #1 …so medsci kids have a harder time to be number 1 since the zone programis just bad and easy and humanities is challenging but not as medsci

oh and about the graduating rate and everything, you could def. tell those facts are old even by looking at the SAT scroes, we have 4000 kids now and grad. rate is 90ish and sat scores have def. gone up

but aside from the rank is everything else good?

oh and one more thing, I dont no if its just my school’s system but GPA is only your gpa regarding your sat scores or volunteering or clubs. so why is it such a big thing when someone with the best gpa could be getting a 2000 sat and doing nothing esle wen someone with a lower gpa has a life and does outside things and good sats

2375?..oh crhap, i ment 2360 sorry

i just want to point out that 45/702 looks low but it’s actually the top 6 percent of the class. while that’s not valedictorian, it’s still not crap. you can definitely get into an ivy with that rank. it won’t help you… but it won’t hurt you either.

If you are into medscience programm then you will be compare only with your peer in that program and you need to know your rank among them.

Everything else looks fine to me wrt any top school. You should apply.

Is it true that you only rank according to the program you’re in? I’m in an Honors program, but my school and my system rank me with everyone else. Just wondering.

i dont know but in my school they cant rank you only between ur program they rank you with everyone else so it sucks, people who are taking such easy classes are obv. going to be on top

oh an`d ty ben and jeerys because top 6 percent is good because ivys like top 10 percent

parentofivyhope

theres no such thing as a free lunch

Question, under your awards you mentioned “intel”, what exactly do you mean by this?
