I am looking to continue my Japanese Studies post-undergraduate education, and am considering either Ritsumeikan (regular or APU), Nagoya University, Osaka University, Waseda, or Hokkaido University since they offer graduate programs in my desired major. Which of these universities have a good Japanese graduate program, and how does the admissions process work for international students? Is there a certain level of language proficiency requirement for these schools? Right now, my Japanese skill level is only enough to get through the JLPT N3 (although I recognize some of the grammar I’ve learned from my Japanese classes among the N2 list). Should I wait until I have JLPT 1 or 2 proficiency before I even apply? Also, what are the interviews like and are they any different from graduate school interviews in the U.S.? I looked up typical graduate school interview questions on Google, but am not sure whether Japanese universities will ask those same questions. Would I be required to book a flight to Japan in order to take the interview, or is there a way for me to get interviewed in my home country? Also, is there any minimum GPA requirement to apply for graduate school in Japan?
In the U.S. you have 5 years of elementary school. So, when you’re in sixth grade you’re considered to be in junior high school and you have four years of senior high.
In Japan however, you have 6 years of elementary school. So you have 3 years of junior high and 3 years of high school.
That…doesn’t even relate to my topic at all. I asked what Japanese university I should go to for graduate school, not what the difference between U.S. and Japanese school system is. And except for one elementary school I went to for 1-3 grade, all the elementary schools I’ve been to went up to 6th grade. Middle school for me was 7-8th grade.
The question is: can you get a Skype interview?
