Which LAC college should I choose?

I have applied to Furman, Earlham, Gettysburg, Occidental and Connecticut College. It would be very helpful if you can assist me to choose which college I should attend (If I’m admitted).

I am interested in Physics and/or 3-2 Engineering Majors. Please help.

I know that Connecticut, Furman and Earlham doesn’t have the 3-2 Program. You can tell about the Physics major in these cases.

Thanks before hand.

All good schools. Go with where you feel comfortable

Furman has a dual engineering degres program. check this out.

[Department of Physics - Furman University](http://physics.furman.edu/academics/engineering.htm#how)

Conn College does offer the 3-2 option, either through WashU or Dartmouth.

And just to round out the list of LACs that don’t have 3-2 programs, but which actually do, Earlham is listed as a participating LAC with Columbia.

You might want to ask these schools about actual participation rates in their 3-2 programs, because at many LACs the rate is extremely low. In practice, 3-2 programs are of much more interest to prospective students than to actual students, as has been discussed in many other threads.

[Dual Degree Program](http://it.umn.edu/students/degrees/dual.html)

There are many good LACs on that list that offer 3-2 programs with the excellent Institute of Technology at the University of Minnesota. The affordable tuition at UMN makes the 3-2 option more financially feasible.

Thnak you so much.

@George. Thanks for that info, I didn’t know it.

@noimagination. I was in search of a school which will provide me with a full ride.

Thanks a lot to Corbett, huskem , yabyab.

If you are a National Merit Finalist, UMN-Morris will give you full tuition.

Very few colleges provide full rides (which would include tuition, room and board).

@ Erin’s Dad. Sir, I have done a bit of research…and got only these!!!..although some loans must be taken…Thank you very much.

Can you afford all the schools you listed?

Phoenix - I’ve read on another thread that you’re international. You may be interested to know that at Furman, Gettysburg ,and Occidental, the international student enrollment is only 2%. At ConnColl it’s 4%. At Earlham it’s 13%. Granted, Earlham has a longstanding relationship with Japan so a lot of its international cohort will be from there, but you’d probably find a more global culture there than at the other schools you’re considering if that’s of importance to you.

@gadad. Oops…I am sorry Sir that I forgot to mention that I’m international. Thank you so much sir for the information. I was not aware of the percentage. However I am trying my best to improve my SAT score to take it above 2100. Hope this helps. Global Culture won’t be a factor Sir.

@Erin’s Dad. I Hope for a free ride or atleast a free tuition there. Thank you so much sir.

^Since you’re intl, I assume that you want a need-based full ride. You’re aware that need-based financial aid for internationals is VERY difficult to find?

Not saying that this describes the OP, but I still find the assumption that internationals can come over here and get full-rides quite an annoying, entitled sense. I would never assume that I could go to some other country and just get a full ride to their universities.

@Pizzagirl…I have quite that sense, which you are implying at…Thus I have applied to only those which has a separate Scholarship for internationals. I’m not asking aid from from your government. I’m asking only to colleges which can provide. And if you dont know there are more than 3000 colleges in USA. 5% international student surely wont matter. And the fact that only 0.7% of them gets aid is to be noticed. Further Ma’am then you should ask your Government to pass a bill that no International Student should get a fullride if he/she qualifies…

And thank you so much for your post Pizzagirl.

PhoenixR,

That was a very classy way to handle someone who honestly doesn’t deserve your time.

Good luck to you! :)

@interestingguy. Thanks a lot. But I have no personal grudge against her. I just told the truth…Lolz.

These are private schools who can give their money to whomever they wish.
