Which laptop for college---HP Pavilion dv6t, HP Envy 15, or the Macbook Pro 15"?

As stated in the question, my 3 favorites so far are

 1. HP Pavilion dv6t (15.6 inch)
 2. HP Envy 15
 3. Macbook Pro (15-inch)

I have been a PC user all my life, so I’m a little hesitant to buy the Macbook Pro, but I’ve also heard that it is a relatively easy transition. I’ll mainly be using my laptop for homework, writing up papers, surfing the web, watching movies, listening to music, occasional gaming (Starcraft), just lounging in the dorm, and basically the typical college life.

You won’t be able to play Starcraft on your Mac unless it will run through Wine which I have my doubts about.

you can always download windows 7 on your mac and use it to play starcraft. But, I’ve heard that the Mac’s nvidia 330m is less than optimal for starcraft II. Google it. I think that you need low to medium settings to run starcraft II smoothly (including large battles).

Okay, but of all my priorities that I’ve listed, Starcraft and gaming are probably at the VERY bottom haha. So let’s say I never said that I wanted to play games on it in the first place. Now which do you recommend?

But this is you and your $1000… Since starcraft is at the bottom (which is good since school comes first) I’d recommend the Macbook Pro if you have money or the Dv6t. The price difference is like $1000 after using HP’s monster coupons, and the only thing the dv6t lacks is the high resolution screen.

I came down to the EXACTLY SAME 3 choices for a laptop except that I would play pretty heavy games as well like COD4 MW2, so I’ll bootcamp with Win 7. In your case, go with MBP 15 ( definitely the best among the 3 ).
BOL

I have a Macbook Pro 15". I like it a lot. It has a very nice screen, the specs are good enough to last you at least all college and it’s aesthetically pleasing.

If you don’t mind paying $1700 then go ahead and get it. I think it is totally worth it.

Somethings are a bit confusing though, such as file sharing with memory card and using Word. It took me about 4 days to get used to the Mac completely.

It’s not worth it. Get a Dell Latitude E6510 or a Lenovo Thinkpad T510. Those will actually HOLD UP for half the price. Let me ask you this: Do you think OS X is worth the price premium?
