<p>Not sure about the computer question, but I know that the quarter begins on the 22nd, not the 19th, and housing said that move-in would be either the 15th or 16th, depending on your move in time, which will be assigned in late august along with your room number and room mates.</p>
<p>You can have whatever laptop you want. As for the operating system, it’s probably more beneficial to use Windows because there seems to be better CS 31 and CS 32 assignment support for it, although OS X will work too. If you get a Mac, you can get a copy of Windows 7 for free from the engineering school, and then dual boot/bootcamp. If you get a PC, you’ll want to install/dual boot some kind of Linux after winter quarter for CS 33 and beyond because you’ll be doing a ton of things that require a Unix-like system.</p>
